1. Post succinct content – Your fans’ News Feeds contain a lot of information. And they have limited time to read it.
2. Post photos and videos – Rich media tends to draw attention more than simple text
3. Post regularly – Your fans will be more likely to engage with your content if you remain top of mind.
4. Ask for your fans’ opinion – Your Page should a be a place for conversations between you and your fans

Pinterest has been around for years. The site allows users to create bulletin boards where they can post photos. The site is a fun creative outlet and allows users to curate content. It feels like a virtual form of clipping pretty pictures from magazines. The majority of Pinterest users are women and common topics are fashion, recipes, crafts and home decor. Pins are shared on Facebook and Twitter, making pinning viral.

We think that Pinterest will be a very important site for anyone who sells on the web. You can pin photos of your products to pinterest. Other users can repin your photos. The photos will be linked to your site which will increase visitors. Additionally, prices can be added to pins.

Once you have joined, you can get the iphone app and install the pinit bookmarklet to your browser. You should also look into plugins for your blog, wordpress, e-commerce site to allow site visitors to easily pin your photos.

Start an account for your company or web identity and start pinning. Follow other pinners and post non-commercial content in addition to your own products.

You can also try crowdsourcing. Start a contest and ask your fans to make pinboards that feature your products. Check out a pinterest contest that we are running for our client, Meg Cabot.

The most important thing that is needed to get your site indexed in Google are inbound links. When launching your site, its essential that you get some other websites link to your site. Here are some simple ways to increase your inbound links.

Professional Associations
Do you belong to any professional associations? Often, they have lists of their members online. See if your site can be listed.

Directories
Web directories such as the Better Business Bureau, local Chamber of Commerce, Yellow Pages, Yahoo Directory, Yelp allow you to link to your site (sometimes for a fee).

Social Networks
Make sure there are links to your site from your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. Ask your employees to add your link to their profiles as well.

Existing Customers
Speak with some of your existing customers and clients to find out if they are willing to exchange links with you.

Press Releases
If you are issuing press releases, make sure that your website URL is included in the boilerplate. If you participate in an interview, ask the journalist to link to your site in the article.

Agents, publicists and other service providers
If you have someone representing you, ask to have your site listed on their site.

Blog posts and articles
Comment on blog posts and articles online that are related to your field. There is often a place where you can enter your website URL. Make sure that your comments are thoughtful and well written — not spam.

THINGS NOT TO DO

• Don’t pay an “SEO expert” who says they can get your 200 links overnight. They will be of low quality and may lower your rank.
• Don’t spam blogs with useless links.
